NWSL Chaos

  • Four Teams have now clinched a playoff spot. There's only two playoff spots left heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

  • Portland, OL Reign, Kansas City, and San Diego have all clinched.

  • Houston, North Carolina, LA, and Chicago are all fighting for the last two spots.

  • Racing Louisville might have pulled off the biggest win of the weekend. They beat Angel City 3-1 which kept ACFC in 8th place. If Angel City would have won they would be controlling their own destiny next weekend.

  • NC Courage is in control of their own destiny next week thanks to both ACFC and Chicago losing over the weekend.

  • The Shield race is also coming down to the last weekend of games. Portland currently sit top of the table and look likely to win it but there's no guarantee. OL Reign, Kansas City and San Diego all still have a chance to finish first in the table.

FAWSL Attendance

A big weekend for Arsenal at the Emirates!

  • Arsenal set a new FAWSL attendance record for a single game. 47,367 fans were in attendance at the Emirates to see Arsenal take on Tottenham. They put on a show winning 4-0. Vivianne Miedema had a brace while Beth Mead and Rafaelle also got on the score sheet.

It was also a big weekend overall in terms of attendance in the FAWSL. Every home team over the weekend got more fans than their average attendance from last season. A list of the attendances from the weekend:

  • Brighton: 5,220

  • Chelsea: 4,403

  • Leicester: 2,713

  • West Ham: 2,104

  • Liverpool: 27,574 (played at Anfield)

NWSL players show support for Brittney Griner

Several NWSL teams showed up to their games in the last week with "We are BG" shirts. The shirts were in support of WNBA player Brittney Griner. Griner is currently being detained in Russia.

  • Debinha might be the best player in the NWSL right now and is a top player in the world. She's now up to 12 goals on the season and is a major reason why the Courage have a shot at the playoffs.

  • Chelsea beat Man City 2-0. Man City starts the season 0-2. It was a big win for Chelsea who lost last weekend.

  • Lauren James is the truth and is getting by defenders with ease. Having her healthy this season is going to be massive for Chelsea.

  • Nadia Nadim unfortunately tore her ACL.

  • PSG pulled off a 2-1 win thanks to a Diani goal in the 90+1 minute. They were down 1-0 and were able to turn it around. It would have been a shock loss for PSG.

  • Inter hand Sampdoria their first loss of the season in Serie A.

  • Arsenal, Manchester United, and Aston Villa all start the FAWSL 2-0. They are the only three teams to take 6 points from the first two games.

  • Rachel Daly is off to a hot start in her return to the FAWSL. She has three goals in two games for Aston Villa.

    Moment of The Weekend

AKB is back for Chelsea! Ann-Katrin Berger had been out due to a recurrence of thyroid cancer. In a statement that was put out in August, she wrote: "I wanted to update fans directly that unfortunately, after four years of living cancer-free, there has been a recurrence detected in my thyroid".

The good news is that just over a month later she was back starting for Chelsea. Not only is she back but the Chelsea goalkeeper came up with some massive saves in their game against Man City.
