AFCON (July 2-July 23)

The 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations is all set to start tomorrow! The tournament is taking place in Morocco and will be the 14th edition of the tournament. The tournament will also decide who qualifies for the 2023 World Cup. There are 3 groups of 4 teams. The top 8 teams in the group stage will advance to the quarterfinals.

    CONCACAF Championship (July 4- July 18)

    The 2022 CONCACAF Championship will kick off on July 4. There are 2 groups of 4 teams. The top 4 teams move onto the Semi-Finals. The tournament is taking place in Mexico, with all the matches being played in the Monterrey region. The tournament will serve as qualifiers for both the 2023 World Cup and 2024 Olympics. 

    • Group A: Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, United States                                                                          

    • Group B: Canada, Costa Rica, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago

        Copa America Femenina (July 8-29)

        The 9th edition of the tournament will take place in Colombia. There are 2 groups of 5 teams. The top two teams of each group will advance to the semi-finals. The two third-placed teams will advance to the fifth place match. The teams that finish first through third will qualify for the 2023 World Cup. Two of the other teams will also advance to the inter-confederation play-offs for a chance to qualify for the World Cup.

        Trade News: 

        • Sydney Leroux was traded to Angel City from Orlando Pride. The Pride acquires 75,000 in allocation money, ACFC's Natural 2024 1st-round draft pick, and 20,000 in conditional allocation money.

        • Ebony Salmon was traded to Houston from Racing Louisville. Racing Louisville acquires 150,000 in 2022 allocation money, 25,000 in 2023 allocation money, and 15,000 in conditional allocation money.

        • Per ESPN, The NWSL is potentially adding two more teams by 2024. Utah is expected to be one of those. Other potential expansion teams are: Atlanta, Austin, Cincinnati, Toronto, St.Louis, and Nashville. 

        • Angel City FC will host Mexico's National team at Banc of California Stadium. The game will take place on September 5 at 9 PM EST.

        • Sophia Smith (Portland Thorns) was named NWSL Player of the Month for June.

        • Sam Coffey (Portland Thorns) was names Rookie of the Month for June.

        • Players that are up for an ESPY under "Best NWSL Player": Jess Fishlock (OL Reign), Caprice Dydasco (Gotham FC), Ashley Hatch (Washington Spirit), and Aubrey Kingsbury (Washington Spirit).

        • Alexia Putellas (Barcelona), Sam Kerr (Chelsea), Vivianne Miedema (Arsenal), and Caroline Graham Hansen (Barcelona) are all up for "Best International Athlete, Women's Soccer" at the ESPYS. 

        • Jaelin Howell is nominated for an ESPY under the Best College Athlete, Women's Sport category.

        • Mary Fowler has signed with Manchester City on a four-year deal. The young Australian superstar was previously at Montpellier.

        • Kosovare Asllani signed with AC Milan until 2024.

        • Ellie Carpenter has extended her contract with Lyon until 2026.
